The Hexham and Beyond route is a challenging road cycling adventure that takes you through some of the most picturesque countryside in Northumberland and Tyne and Wear. With a total distance of 119 kilometers and an ascent of 2,327 meters, this route is suitable for well-trained amateur cyclists. Along the way, you'll encounter historic landmarks, charming villages, and breathtaking views. Highlights include the town of Hexham, known for its rich history and stunning Medieval abbey; the beautiful village of Slaley; and Edmundbyers, a picturesque village situated in the heart of the North Pennines. You'll also pass through Stanhope, a charming market town with a bustling atmosphere and plenty of amenities. As you approach Hare Hill, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Cowshill and Langley Castle offer further opportunities to soak in the region's historic charm, with the latter being a particularly impressive fortress surrounded by majestic landscapes.
